Data Modernization Journey using DV2 and BEAM*
Working with archaic systems in insurance seems to be a common theme. Amica Life made the decision on 2019 to revamp its end-to-end system platform. This provided an opportunity to start fresh with a new cloud data warehouse.
We decided to move from SQL Server and SSRS reporting to Snowflake and PowerBI but more importantly using the data vault 2.0 methodology.
We found many advantages of using this approach, with a small team and a data warehouse automation tool Amica Life was able to start from scratch and modernize our back and front-end systems and processes. This has empowered business users to interact with dashboards and reports for the first time.
The journey started from education, partnering with the business to let them drive business requirements using the beam methodology using BEAM helped us rapidly collect business-based requirements driven by business personnel, define gradually expanding scope, and design the BV and IMs all in an agile way.
We will be showcasing our journey and challenges and success. We partnered with PG2 for best practices, teaching, and implementation. They have helped us grasp the methodology.
